At the conclusion of a challenging building contract it is my pleasure to be able to write in recommendation of the services of NZ Built Ltd.

This practice’s association with NZ Built began in 2001 when our two organizations were involved in a series of residential projects for a large corporate client. Having been struck with the attitude and managerial approach of NZ Built, and of their managing director Paul Belcher in particular, we approached that firm in early 2003 with a view to negotiating a $300,000 contract for the conversion of an existing dwelling in Remuera.

Although the project proved much more challenging than could have been anticipated, we have no regrets at all at the choice of building company, which succeeded in bringing a difficult contract to a pleasing end result. Right from the early negotiation stage, when they openly supplied detailed and well considered information, Paul and his team proved professional and cooperative in their approach and showed what was to be an ongoing commitment to pursuing the “right” solution rather than the “easy” one.

Hallmarks of NZ Built’s operation are their refreshingly proactive approach to job management and their commitment to achieving first class results. These traits were illustrated repeatedly throughout the job, from the first preparation of a detailed Gantt chart programme, through handling challenging situations in a cooperative and well documented manner, to paying enduring attention to detail at the completion of the job.

While the approach of Paul himself is undoubtedly a key factor in the performance of NZ Built, the firm is well supported both by their own skilled staff and by their team of subcontractors, who reflect Paul’s own commitment to quality and integrity.

In addition to providing a competent and cooperative building team, NZ Built also strive to add value to the project through such things as suggestions of alternatives, providing access to their network of suppliers and subcontractors, and a constructive approach to tackling problems. This attitude prevailed even at high-pressure stages of the job when taking the “line of least resistance” would have seemed quite understandable.

The contract itself was a fairly substantial and complex house conversation, and was characterized by an ongoing sequence of unexpected challenges. These encompassed, for example, exceptionally difficult ground conditions, certain exacting environmental constraints, coping with a very large number of variations, and addressing contentious technical issues with a recalcitrant product supplier. In spite of what were at times highly frustrating situations, at no time did Paul fail to bring a courteous and constructive approach to his work.

It is not too much to say that the attitude and skills of the team at NZ Built, in job management as well as on the site, played a key role in b ringing this difficult job to a good conclusion. We look forward to further opportunities to work with them and have no hesitation in recommending them to others.
