This architecturally designed Eco home was particularly difficult to construct due to the large amount of excavating and retaining required, as well as the limited access to the site. Careful planning, co-ordination and attention to detail were imperative in this project, with many details having no tolerance. The kitchen was designed to maximize the area within the limited space. Careful choice of Prestige joinery was used to maximize solar energy. Solar panels were used to utilize natural energy to heat the water. Hot block was used, as well as Greenstuff R2.2 and R3.0, a substantially higher grade insulation than is specified in the building code. A tank was installed to catch rainwater runoff, which is reticulated through the house and used for flushing toilets and hose taps.
